What: A competition where Fox Valley restaurants submit a pumpkin-based dessert of their own creation for judging by both a professional panel and the public tasters. Entrants will create one full-size serving for each judge (5) and 500, “3 bite-sized samples” for the public “tasters”.  All proceeds to benefit the Zellmer Childhood Disease Foundation.

When: Saturday, October 1st, at the Pumpkins For a Cure & Black Hat Day festivities. Set up is from 12:00-2:00, Judges taste privately from 2:00 until a winner is selected. Public tastes from 2:00-3:45. Votes calculated while professional judges take the microphone and announce their comments and the winner by 4:30.

Where: The Little Traveler, 404 S. Third Street, Geneva, Illinois.

Who: The restaurants, food shops, patisseries, etc. of the Fox Valley Area (entrants) including; 3 Vines, Francesca's, Baked By ZuZu, Preservation Bread & Wine Cafe, Rx Cafe, Wildwood. Also, a professional panel of judges, and 500 “tasters” who will represent the public.  The professional panel of judges consists of;

  • Chef Alain Roby (culinary-award winning pastry chef & sugar artist) and his wife Esther.

  • Chef Hans (Aeschbacher) former head chef at Trader Vic's, Smith & Wollensky as well as executive chef at Lawry's Prime Rib, the old Chicago Stadium and the United Center.

  • Renee Ferguson, Butterball expert, Food Network guest, and author of Talk Turkey to Me.

  • Renee Zonka, Dean of the Kendall College School of Culinary Arts, one of the top ten best culinary schools.

  • Phil Vettel, Chicago Tribune Food Critic.

Public Tasters: Tasters will purchase a pre-sale $5.00 ticket ($10.00 at the door) that will allow them to sample each dessert and vote for the one they like the best. The ticket also will enter the purchaser in a drawing to win a food & wine basket valued at $300.00.
